Fact Check: Tatkal Booking Timings Changed? Indian Railways Clarifies the Truth
F

In recent days, social media has been abuzz with claims that Indian Railways has changed the Tatkal ticket booking timings. Messages went viral suggesting new timings for both AC and sleeper class tickets. But how much of this is true?

Here’s the verified information.

What the Rumours Said

According to the viral posts, Indian Railways had changed Tatkal booking timings. The message claimed:

  • New timing for AC class: 10:30 AM instead of 10:00 AM
  • New timing for Sleeper class: 12:30 PM instead of 11:00 AM

Naturally, this created confusion among passengers who depend on last-minute ticket booking. The rumors spread across WhatsApp, Facebook, and even some unverified blogs.

IRCTC’s Official Response

Indian Railways has officially denied any changes in Tatkal booking timings.

A press statement from the Railway Ministry and IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) clarified that no modifications have been made. The current timings remain as follows:

  • AC Class: 10:00 AM (One day before the journey)
  • Sleeper Class: 11:00 AM (One day before the journey)

The Railway Ministry also requested passengers to rely on official IRCTC sources and not fall for fake news circulating online.

Why This Clarification Matters

Over 13 lakh Tatkal tickets are booked daily in India. Any misinformation can affect a large number of travelers. Such viral posts not only misguide people but also create unnecessary panic during the peak travel season.

This isn’t the first time Indian Railways had to step in to debunk a rumor. In the past too, false claims about train cancellation policies and ticket refunds have gone viral.

Fact Check Verdict: False

  • Claim: Indian Railways changed Tatkal booking timings
  • Fact: No, the timings remain unchanged
  • Source: IRCTC, Indian Railways Official Press Release
