40% Rise in Income, Double Graduates – Indian Progress in Singapore 2025

The Indian community in Singapore has shown significant growth in both education and economic status over the past two decades. As per recently shared community data, graduate-level education among Indians has doubled, and household incomes have increased by 40% during the same period.

Education Advancements

In the year 2000, only 16.5% of Indians aged 25 and above in Singapore held a degree. By 2020, this number had impressively climbed to 41% – which means 4 out of every 10 Indian adults in the country are now graduates. This rise is being attributed to a combination of immigration of skilled professionals and strong community educational support programs.

At the same time, the school dropout rate among Indian students has significantly dropped. In 2000, 38% of Indian students were leaving school before completing their secondary education. In 2020, that rate came down to 18%. Experts say the trend is promising but believe further improvements are still possible.

Economic Growth and Income Increase

Not only in education, but Indian families in Singapore have also made major strides economically. From a median household income of SGD 6,000 in 2010, it rose to SGD 8,500 by 2020, marking a 40% increase.

Community organizations have played a big role in this transformation. One such body reported helping over 31,000 Indian residents through education, financial literacy, and community outreach programs in 2024 alone, supported by hundreds of volunteers and donors.

Population and Demographics

Currently, Indians make up around 7.6% of Singapore’s citizen population, according to recent census data. Much of the population growth is due to professionals and skilled workers immigrating to Singapore, rather than birth rate expansion.

This data highlights a positive shift in the social and economic status of Indians in Singapore – driven by education, skill development, and targeted community efforts.
